My very first market with Z.ART Tides took place on 24 May 2026 at the Pentecost Market at Hof Poppendamme in Grijpskerke!
With sunshine, a lovely rural atmosphere, and surrounded by pigs, cats and chickens, I got to present and sell my handmade pieces at a market for the very first time, together with friends.
All well and good – but WOW, was I nervous! By then, I had already dealt with so much bureaucracy that I definitely didn’t enjoy, but it simply had to be done. I experimented with materials, cut myself about 100 times, breathed in far too much varnish, threw things away, started over and tried again – and then suddenly, the day was there.
How would visitors react? Would anyone actually buy something? I was genuinely so glad not to be there alone, because even though from the outside it may have looked like just a little two-metre space and a pallet table, for me it was an incredibly big step.
A completely different kind of work – I’m actually a qualified social care professional – my own art, a different country, a different language, and for the first time really stepping into this new identity independently and making it visible.
It felt huge – and incredibly valuable.
A very special beginning and a day I still look back on very, very fondly.
